An Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion , is an individual that assists the priest (Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion) in the distribution of Holy Communion to the congregation. They may be trained to take the Lord’s Supper to those who are homebound, ill, or incarcerated.

The priest appoints these ministers and serves under his supervision.
